Celebrating Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah

This week we learnt about Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish celebration of their New Year.

We were able to try on a kippah (traditional hat) and tallit (shawl worn over the shoulders).

Jewish people wear these items in a Synagogue (house of prayers).

We also learnt that Jewish people eat sweet foods at Rosh Hashanah to bring them a sweet new year.

We were able to try apple dipped in honey and honey cake.

'It's sticky'

 'Yum, thats nice!'

 'I like it'

'I don't like the skin, I ate the rest'

 'Can we have more?'

We listened to a shofar (ram's horn). It is like a trumpet and is played in the Synagogue at Rosh Hashanah.

It looks like this...

and sounds like this...

We enjoyed learning about Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish religion.

We are now looking forward to celebrating many more festivals and learning about lots of different religions.
