6W Science

In Science this week we have been looking at the effects of drugs, alcohol and cigarettes on our bodies. We did role-play whereby we had to say no to peer pressure.

Year 1 Explore the Gruffalo Trail

On Thursday 8th October 2015, Year 1 went on a school trip to Brentwood to explore the Gruffalo Trail to consolidate our learning!
Have a peek into our day.

"Our coach number is 265!" yelled Daniel B.

Boarding the coach

On the coach

Alighting the coach, we met Michelle (a Ranger) our Guide for the day.

"Look, the deep, dark wood!" cried David.

Slowly, quietly and responsibly making our way into the woods.

"I see a big squirrel over there!  Look!" Naglis bursted out.

Without wasting time, Michelle put us to work as we had fun.
Investigating the Gruffalo's footprint.
"Wow! This is massive!"

We tried fitting our groups in the Gruffalo's footprint.  "It can fit six children!" Jaden said.

Then we had to camouflage ourselves with leaves, twigs, beechnuts etc, to be ableto creep up on the Gruffalo.
"Camouflage means to disguise ourselves." explained Jada.
"So we can blend in with the forest." Reggie added.

"I see the Gruffalo's  claw marks on this tree!" Dawid mentioned.

"We are scratching our backs by rubbing it on the tree like the Gruffalo."

"We are now camouflaging."

Creeping around in search of the Gruffalo.

"I think we're getting closer.  Look at more claw marks on the trees."

"I found the Gruffalo!"

Making a 'crumble' for the Gruffalo
"First we decided what ingredients we needed.  Then we went off to gather the ingredients.  Meanwhile, Michelle went off to make a pot for our crumble.  Next we put in all our twigs, leaves, beechnuts and finally we held them all together with mud."

"We looked at the 'twig house' the Gruffalo made.  We didn't go inside because it's not safe."

"What a giant crumble for the Gruffalo!" exclaimed Aarav.

What a fun day!  Thanks to Michelle, our Parent helpers, our coach driver and to Miss Scott (for arranging the trip) for an awesome experience!

 Friday 9th October 2015
Gemma had an amazing Drama Workshop with us in our hall.
It was all about Fairytales.

Acting how Little Red Riding Hood feels in the lonely woods on the way to Grandma's.

Little Red Riding Hood talking to a stranger (the disguised wolf).
We were reminded that we must remember never to do that even if they look nice and friendly.

"Thank you Gemma for a fun time."
